      The switches allow us to store more cars and other engines on the layout / switch out different sets of rolling stock for the main line. I would not be able to fit another line in here so it’s a good use of space for us.

    Nice! It is good that Lionel makes the operating track in FasTrack. The older cars, though, don't work as well on the new, electromagnet center rail. Their plungers sit a little lower and they don't pull down far enough to operate properly. The older operating track's magnet was a bit more flush with the center rail. Either way, those operating cars are pretty cool. As always, an excellent video.

    Great vid, I don't have any fastrack switches, but older lionel and k-line switches coud be wired separately from track power. I run my switches 14 volts constant from a separate transformer. Again, I don't own a fastrack switch, so not sure if it's an option.

    It's a shame about Right-Of-Way. According to "Classic Toy Trains" magazine what happened was, and I quote: "The undoing of Right-Of-Way Industries came with a project for a die-cast metal FT diesel set. The firm required deposits, which went to the foreign manufacturer, who never made the FT's. It could not survive the aftermath of that failure to deliver." Too bad, Right-Of-Way was a class act!

    Nice. I forgot to comment on this video, when I first saw it. The real T1 could exceed 130 mph, although the Franklin valve gear would cause problems, closing in on 135. They actually were kinder to the track than a regular 4-8-4, with lighter running gear and smaller pistons, reducing the hammer blows from the drive rods. As far as eBay goes, I've always had good luck, except for one time. I bought some glass bowls for my vintage Sunbeam MixMaster. The seller shipped them together, inside themselves, with no padding or anything in between. All but one was broken into shards. I contacted him and he immediately went off on me and reported me to eBay. I got with them and they dismissed his report, out of hand, knowing that it was BS and actually admonished him. I got my money back and I think that he eventually got banned as a seller. I have a top rating of 100% as a buyer and I didn't want that tarnished, in any way. Either way, I hope that you've gotten all of the issues resolved with that T1. As always, an excellent video.

    Lionmasters are nice but the price tag is too much for me. I went with MTH Imperial all the same features and details for a much lower price. As for size, the later Railking (Imperial - circa 2007) Big Boys are just a tad bigger in size vs. the Lionmasters. Catalogs advertise the Lionmaster at 29" and the Railking Imperial at 29 1/8". The MSRP from the latest Lionmaster Big Boy (2019) was $1200 vs the latest MTH Imperial (2022) at $850.

    • @Dadified86
      @Dadified86 5 днів тому

      I have a lot of Union Pacific in our roster and everyone asks why I haven’t gotten the RailKing FEF-3 “844”. I’ve seen those engines before and the detail/proportions just aren’t there. Looked silly next to my LionMaster challenger. The Imperial Big Boy proportions are a little strange and it’s got no number boards above the signal lights. Like someone shaved the eyebrows off 😅

    • @prhf
      @prhf 5 днів тому

      @@Dadified86 I replaced my first run Lionmaster Big Boy with an imperail and upgraded the sound set with quilling whistle. The scaling is subjective to ones preference. There are pluses and minuses to each model. The only feature I missed on my Lionmaster was whistle steam but that's not even available on the newer ones made recently. Yes the Imperial is missing the number boards but those aren't worth an extra $350.

    Right of Way Industries also made rolling stock as well Mike. They started out making switches for Gargraves in 1986 which was the year the company started. Bill Benson who founded the company sadly passed away in 2021. I believe another reason ROW went under was due to the increase of scale and more affordable items from Lionel and MTH in the mid 90s. Did you know ROW also made a UP flat car with John Deere manure spreaders from their farm series?

  • @johnandrus3901
    @johnandrus3901 6 днів тому

    Very nice. I agree with you on LionMaster. Even though my outer main is O72/O96 and my inner main is O72/O72-54 hybrid, I would rather run the smaller equipment. Those large, scale engines and cars just take up too much space, really. I've mentioned this to Dave Griffin on his channel. The smaller, semi-scale and traditional Lionel equipment help make a layout look larger than it is. The post-war Lionel F's, TrainMasters and a few other diesels, were scale-sized. They look perfect pulling the 15 inch passenger cars and semi-scale freight cars. I would love to have a semi-scale T1, pulling my AMT Pennsylvania Railroad Broadway Limited set. A semi-scale S1, would be even nicer, for sure.👍😋 Either way, those LionMaster locomotives pulling the MTH semi-scale cars look just right on your layout and would on any layout, regardless of size. I think that Lionel really did drop the ball on this one. There are plenty of O gauge operators that would benefit from the LionMaster line. They should bring it back and promote it better. I'm sure that it would sell just fine, if they did. As usual, an excellent video and commentary.

    Good Video appreciate the share of the story. I am a Flyer Guy, Pre War O and Post War S, But I am a retired engineer with CAD and a 3D Printer. So I have taken my old stuff and began to update it (10 years ago) . I am just completing a Royal Blue with updated everything. I have always wanted the T1 in S, but there aren't any. Because I am Flyer I accept the designs and mechanics of these vintage engines. But i wanted reliability and features. So I engineered my own solutions. I have a fan Driven Smoke, Digital Reverse, Synchronized Puff & Chuff, Digital Sounds, LED lighting and All Wheel Pick Up Trucks. I recently took my Dremel and built a DIY CNC Mini Mill so I could rework prewar Engine chassis to add the Smoke timing gear that was on the Post war S versions. OK so That Happened, now today I want to design and build a FLyer Version of the T1. the same Chassis and Body for both but wheel offsets for O or S. I do that by changing one part from S wide to O wide. in the tender and add the center rail Pick up. If i had questions about the T1 Style could I ask for photos of your engine to use to model my parts. I am not going into rivet counting detail. I have to leave that to the builders. I work toward a running chassis and blank Body Shell for engine and tender. I see the tender is similar enough to the Royal Blue style. I have an Extended Range Royal Blue Tender in S i think will work with a few tweaks, nips and tucks. I appreciate your efforts to save engines. I bought several American Models that were Dead at good Prices, fixed them between super glue and 3D Printing it was easy, then resold them for more parts money. Al the Best in you Train Experience. If you ever take the engine body off, I would love to get photo of the component details, whistle smoke timing gears, sensor triggers, everything can help find new ways to incorporate features into my Flyer version of the T1. Thanks Again, Dennis at Frankentrain Laboratories on You Tube.

      So far we’ve just had the longer ones but I’d like to get a set of smaller ones for the elevated line. I think they’d look good there.

      @@Dadified86 ok thank you I was planning on buying a couple of sets from menards and it is almost the same price to get 4 of the long ones or get a set of 8 short ones
